The Great British Box Room Challenge – Meet The Winner

“If the walls at Dawnridge could talk, they’d scream!”
I’ve been completely blown away by the commitment, talent and level of detail by the winning entry. From the hand painted mini clay pot and paintings, to the carpeted step, removable grid ceiling, wallpaper, ‘glass’ top table, mini upholstery, cushions and hanging bird cages.
It gives me immense pleasure to congratulate Mink @white_rabbit_living for her miniature version of Dawnridge, LA, the former home of designer and artist Tony & Elizabeth Duquette. Built by the couple in 1949 and frequented by the Hollywood set, it is said if the walls at Dawnridge could talk they’d scream!
You may recognise the interior from Ratched on Netflix, Gucci adverts, as well as numerous magazine covers from Vogue to Bazaar.
With a motto of ‘more is more’ Tony Duquette was still designing into his 80’s, releasing a jewellery collection in collaboration with @huttonwilkinson a year before his death in 1998.
Mink has demonstrated what can be created from repurposing recycling and fabric remnants. The only things not handmade in her box room are the seashell planters.
Truly wowed, truly inspired and a truly worthy winner you are Mink, and could a winner receive any better compliment than to receive a personal invitation to visit Dawnridge, from Tony Duquette Official.
“I absolutely adore this space, and making a miniature version was ambitious but so much fun. Everything you see bar the shells was made by me using a mixture of recycling materials and stuff I have hoarded.”>
I’d like to thank all of the entrants for their wonderful mini interiors, each one has been magical to explore. I launched the competition to ease lockdown, particularly for anyone experiencing loneliness, anxiety or simply boredom, intending it to be accessible to all, with little to no cost.
I hope you’ve been inspired, kept focus and learned some new skills, as I have.
